Why most follow-ups fail
The most common follow-up email reads: "Hi, just checking in on my application!" This tells the recruiter nothing new and gives them no reason to act. It screams "I have nothing to add."
A strong follow-up does one of three things: adds new information, re-establishes a specific hook, or offers to make the recruiter's life easier.

Subject: Quick ask — [Company] referral
Hi [Contact Name],
I'm applying to [Role] at [Company] and noticed you work there. Would you be open to a 15-minute call so I can learn more about the team? And if you think I'd be a fit, any referral would mean a lot.

Template 5: Offer negotiation opener
Subject: Re: Offer — [Role]
Hi [Name],
Thank you so much for the offer — I'm genuinely excited about the opportunity and the team.
Before I sign, I'd love to discuss the base compensation. Based on my research and the scope of the role, I was expecting something closer to [$X]. Is there flexibility there?
Happy to discuss. Looking forward to it.
